What’s Your Custom Home Personality Type? Take Our Quiz to Find Out

Here at Springhouse, our architectural process includes five phases, but this doesn’t include what we call phase zero. In a nutshell, these are the months leading up to the moment we decide to work together.

Generally speaking, this process begins the moment you contact us. You can either email questions directly to me, call our phone number, fill out this form on our website, message me on Facebook and Instagram, or you can schedule a free 15-minute consultation with our superhero office manager, Jenn. During this call, Jenn assesses if the relationship is going to work on both ends and she can answer any questions you have about what services you are looking for.

This is also an opportunity to discuss what you, the client, are thinking of doing. Is this a full custom home project? A build? A renovation? This is also a great time to understand your priorities for your projects.

What do I mean by project priorities?

At Springhouse, we bucket your priorities into four major categories: Budget/Timeline, Nesting/Family, Design/Prestige, and Legacy/Dream. Not sure which one you fall into? We made a free quiz for you to take here! In it, you’ll choose one statement that is closest to how you feel about your future home. When you are finished, we will identify your project personality. The entire quiz is only 10 questions long and should take you less than five minutes to complete—but it will have a great impact on how you choose to move forward with your custom home or renovation.

Personality Type #1: Budget & Timeline

It will be an amazing home and you will get there by planning and making good decisions.

With budget and timeline as your predominant project personality, you might be a little disappointed—but you shouldn’t be. This doesn’t mean your home will be boring or inexpensive—most importantly, it certainly doesn’t mean it won’t be a beautiful space and support a beautiful life. It simply means that many of your decisions are going to be made based on this priority.

Everyone has a budget, whether it’s $500,000 or $5 million, and it’s your priority to stick to that. Timeline is the same way. It takes as long as it takes to build a custom home—and we can help develop a timeline—but once developed, you’re going to want to stick to it and make decisions on time. In other words, you won’t want to make decisions that will affect your timeline.

In a nutshell, you want a beautiful custom home with a budget and timeline you can count on, and you’re going to want to partner with team members who can help you hold those.

Superpowers:

  • Able to make good decisions based on information presented to you

  • You know your numbers and understand the consequences of choices you make

  • You are not lost in the clouds with unrealistic expectations

  • Your priorities will guide your decisions

Downfall:

  • You may miss some opportunities in design because you might dismiss ideas before seeing them through

  • There are a lot of moving parts in a custom build and if you get off in timeline it may throw you

Personality Type #2: Nesting & Family

This is going to be an amazing home that serves your family well and provides a place that is a respite from the rest of the world.

If your primary project personality is nesting and family, you are putting your family first and creating a beautiful place that will support a beautiful life with them. Your decisions are likely going to be guided by how spaces serve your family. It will be important to know how long this home will serve your family and you’ll want to keep in mind how families change through time.

Superpowers:

  • Thinking through how spaces will be used daily by several different people to support your lives together

  • Creating spaces for your family to gather and experience life together

  • Understanding how the home will be used

  • Supporting traditions and creating new ones

Downfall:

  • Making every decision based on how your family is right now

  • Creating separate spaces for things that could be combined

Personality Type #3: Design & Prestige

This is going to be an incredible home that will serve you well. You’ll host great gatherings, which will amaze everyone who has the pleasure to experience it—including yourself!

Design and prestige gets a bad reputation, but it doesn’t need to be this way. Sometimes we perceive this personality type as negative because society tends to think you shouldn’t “feed your ego.” This is different. This is you knowing what you want and knowing how to get it for you, your family, and your friends. For Springhouse, this personality type is one of our deepest joys. It’s fun to design for you and your participation in the process is something that we get excited about. Being up for a design award would be icing on the cake!

Superpowers:

  • Knowing what you want

  • Open to creative solutions

  • You don’t want to go crazy, but you don’t have to fit in either

  • The spaces you create are important to serve your lifestyle

Downfall:

  • Not understanding how much money and time it will take to get what you want

  • Timeline is always too long—you want it now!

Personality Type #4: Legacy & Dream

This breathtaking home will be the culmination of many years of planning and will serve you and your family for a long time.

This is what you’ve been waiting for all of your life: creating a legacy dream home. It’s taken a lot of work to get to this point and now you’re finally ready to create the home you’ve been thinking of and planning for. You’re ready for the day when you get to move in and call it your home!

Superpowers:

  • You know what you want and you want to get it right

  • Gathering people together and providing a beautiful space for them

  • You know how to look to and plan for the future

  • Patience to do it right

Downfall:

  • You have so many good ideas it’s hard to fit it all into one home design

  • Not understanding how much money and time it will take to get what you want

So, which personality type are you? Take the quiz! It’s completely free and you’ll be done in less than five minutes.
